Disney Lorcana Is Coming This Summer

What Is Disney Lorcana?

Disney Lorcana is an exciting trading card game (TCG) coming this summer that brings the magic of Disney to life, developed in collaboration between Disney and renowned tabletop games publisher Ravensburger.

Similar to popular TCGs such as Magic: The Gathering and the Pokemon TCG, players will embark on an adventure to collect cards from booster packs and other products, and strategically construct decks to outwit their opponents in thrilling duels.

The game is brought to life through the creative efforts of Ravensburger, known for their successful collaboration with Disney on the Villainous series of tabletop games.

Ravensburger has also made a name for itself in the board game world with titles like Dingbats, Escape, Labyrinth, and El Dorado, but Disney Lorcana marks their debut into the realm of trading card games.

What is the Lorcana story?

You take on the role of an Illumineer, a seeker of knowledge and protector of the realm.

Your journey begins when you stumble upon a colossal contraption housed within the Great Illuminary, a mysterious building.

Within this wondrous device, elements of Disney stories and fragments of lore come together to form glimmers - vivid recreations of beloved characters, cherished items, and breathtaking worlds from across the Disney universe. As an Illumineer, armed with your wand-like Inkcaster, you are entrusted with the task of safeguarding Lorcana and embarking on a quest to uncover missing lore.

The narrative of Disney Lorcana will unfold across a number of different places, weaving together various mediums such as cards, social media, and other materials, as revealed by narrative director Samantha McFerrin.

The first story arc, aptly titled The First Chapter, is just the beginning of an epic saga that will span the entirety of the game's first year.

What Are Inks?

Inks are similar to the colours in Magic: the Gathering. Each Ink represents different strengths, weaknesses, philosophies, and play styles.

• Amber (yellow) - Amber appears to combine protective elements such as healing damage, with effects that care about having multiple glimmers in play at once.
• Steel (grey) - this ink will focus on "brute force", with a focus on attacking with your glimmers and effects that relate to challenging and combat.
• Ruby (red) - Ruby glimmers are daring. They use their speed and bravery to defy the odds. They are often warriors, explorers, and daredevils.
• Sapphire (blue) - Sapphire glimmers are intellectual. Intelligent and creative, they excel at strategy, invention, and the arts. They can almost always know something, plan something, or invent something that will win the day.
• Emerald (green) - Emerald glimmers are flexible. Gifted with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, they are never caught off guard. Quick-thinking but not necessarily book-smart, they navigate their environment—whether physical or social, natural or artificial—with ease.
• Amethyst (purple) - Amethyst glimmers are wondrous, for this is the otherworldly ink of sorcerers, sages, animated objects, and other glimmers who use their special powers to achieve their aims. They are incredibly powerful when they have access to their amazing abilities but may land in trouble if they’re stripped of those or tap into power they can’t control.
